For 12 years now barring a hiatus during the pandemic the Wintershall Players have performed every Good Friday ’The Passion Of Christ’ in front of thousands gathered in Trafalgar Square, on the terrace above and to the sides where over 100 players dressed in costume of the region and times play out the story of the final days of Jesus before the crucifixion, the crucifixion itself and subsequent rise from death.

Hell was real that night and I pray for those souls so callously murdered that they now rest in peace in heaven.

About a mile south of Londons famous Tower Bridges sits an abandoned Soviet T34/85 tank. Although famed for it's role in WW2 this actual model was built post-war in Czechoslovakia and bears pretty much all the same features as the typical previous wartime version.
Today it receives once permission is given by it's owner Stompie a random paint job every now and them from bright pinks to tiger stripes to zebra strips to military green to turquoise with white spots and so on.

Happiest Days Of Their Lives. Peter and Louise Levine join with the crowds as England go through to the next round meeting Brazil in the quarterfinals of World Cup 2002 in Japan. As people joined in front of the TV earlier in the day so Peter and Louise joined together in front of the alter in Hampstead Village a couple of miles away in north London. Now at the first of their receptions of the day they are given a fine sending off…just as England where to be given the following week albeit in not such a joyous manner suffering a 2-1 defeat to Brazil in Shizuoka.

Now being demolished to make way for the ticket hall to London's new Cross Rail project the Black Gardinia was a fabulous little place and a real gem run by genuinely cool people in the real sense of the word, not playing dress-up they really are who they are in every day life and didn't care what anybody thought. If you got in and didn't get thrown out you had passed the cool test. With the bar serving beer cans from wholesalers this really was a place of cool glitz and no pretentions, just a dark dank tiny club for a great and increasingly hard to find proper 'Soho' experience. The music was eclectic from gruff Blues Shouters twanging their guitars to cool jazz chanteuses. If you were hip you could spot some of-the-moment celebs here guesting on their night off such as Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, Paloma Faith and Big Boy Bloater definitely making it worth a visit although beware any of the All Bar One crowd who might be more comfortable in their bland surface world. As the sign on the bar says "No trainers, No c*nts".

Over 100 fire fighters were called out to the blaze in Soho's Dean Street leading to most of eastern Soho being cordoned off, including the westbound side of Oxford Street. The fire was caused by a faulty air conditioning duct at 76 Dean Street, luckily and maybe miraculously though no one was hurt or injured in the fire.

In the aftermath of September 11th fear gathered as the silence from the U.S. turned to the sound and rhetoric of the Bush Administrations march to war. Plans are announced to invade Afghanistan in the search for Osama Bin Laden mastermind of the 9/11 attacks whom Mr Bush believed was being hidden by the ruling Taliban. Over 20,000 Anti-War protestors take to the streets of London setting off from Marble Arch for Trafalgar Square to demonstrate their cause against air strikes on Afganistan after the 6th night of the U.S. led bombardment blowing whistles and carrying placards saying; ‘Fight US/UK Imperialism’, ‘Don’t Panic I’m Islamic’ to the pedestrian and sombre ‘CND Says Not In My Name’. Originally planned as part of the International Day of protest To Stop the Militarisation Of Space organizers turned their attention to the strikes on Afganistan. CND chair Carol Naughton labelled the demonstration “Incredible, we expected a lot of people but this just shows an upsurge of people who are opposed to the conflict in Britain”. Now in 2013 with time to reflect and in light of what happened today the 29/30th August 2013 with David Cameron’s vote on Syria being over turned I look back and wonder if this day in 2001 was the real beginning where the people of the UK began to say ‘No’ even before the first whispers of the later and more famous Anti War in in Iraq demonstrations had been heard in 2003. For now today in August 2013 the peoples voice seems to have been heeded but for how long will our governments listen.

Ronald Bailey has a herd totalling 56 ‘Friesian’ cattle. Previously he’d had a Canadian strain with their higher milk yield but reverted back soon after to his original Friesians cattle with their higher protein and buttermilk content. With the Friesians and their higher 4-4.5% buttermilk yield they also have a longer life expectancy living for around 15 years compared to the other Canadian breeds expected 6 years. Because of depletion of the original Friesians stock imported bulls from Ireland are used to father the current generation of young until numbers increase overall, this sometimes produces a red/brown sheen to the dark areas of the coat. After grazing the summer away the herd will be sheltered during the winter months their only exercise being a stroll around the neighbouring yard or on their 2 daily trips to the milking parlour just beyond.

Born in Budapest Zsolt became Hungarian foil fencing champion in his youth before escaping the 1956 Hungarian revolution somewhere in the middle. On arriving in Britain he became UK Professional Épée Champion and found work as a fencing coach for the British Under-20 team and then later in the film industry going on to tutor various celebrities including Justin Pitman, Laurent Harper, Sean Connery and Bruce Dickinson. In 1965 he starred opposite Michael Caine as the prison doctor in ‘The Ipcris Files’ before following this up two years later with a role as the Control Room Technician in the Bond movie ‘You Only Live Twice’. His last years were spent working as a book keeper at a production company based in the Soho area of London from where once finished with the days work he’d go and teach fencing classes in Victoria where dressed head to toe in a black fencing outfit no one would dare mess with the man in black. Zsolt if you’re looking down it was a pleasure to have been your friend, mister I salute you.!

Standing astride one of his creations in the courtyard of modern day Kings Cross during a return home to their roots and birthplace for Joe and the Mutoid Waste Company. From here in more derelict times they became famous for their colossal structures, customised vehicles welded together from broken down cars, lorries etc as well as large scale murals and organising illegal parties across the capital throughout the 1980's first with Psychedelic Rock and Dub Reggae followed later by early Acid House music as Dance exploded onto the scene. After numerous Police Raids on their warehouse in Kings Cross the group left the country and moved temporarily to Germany before finally settling in Santarcangelo di Romagna where they set up a scrap village call Mutonia continuing to work, display and perform across the Emilia Romagna region before coming back temporarily in 2012 to perform at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
